The Jacoby Consulting Group Blog

Welcome to the Jacoby Consulting Group blog.
You will immediately notice that this blog covers a wide range of themes - in fact, whatever takes my fancy or whatever I feel strongly about that is current or topical. Although themes may relate to business, corporate or organisational issues (i.e. the core talents of JCG), they also cover issues on which JCG also feels warranted to comment, such as social issues, my books, other peoples' books and so on. You need to know that comments are moderated - not to stifle disagreement - but rather to eliminate obnoxious or incendiary comments. If a reader wishes to pursue any specific theme in more detail, specifically in relation to corporate, business or organisational issues, or in relation to my books, then the reader is invited to send an off-line email with a request. A prompt response is promised. I hope you enjoy this blog - sometimes informed, sometimes amused and sometimes empassioned. Welcome and enjoy.

Anti-Semitism

The stench and crime of anti-Semitism cannot be erased by the denial of the perpetrator, in part because the perpetrator doesn’t fully understand the implications of his words and deeds, and in part, because he expresses and does that which he really believes – despite his protestations of innocence.
I cannot begin to image the horror felt by those who read Backman’s piece who had experienced the concentration camps and Nazi-persecution. They must have been mortified as their eyes unwrapped the poisonous words – they had seen and lived it all before. Backman uses words and sentiments that echo the stench of Nazism – and all one has to do is examine the Nazi-era newspapers to acknowledge that this is true.
My parents fled Europe to come to Australia after their experiences in the death camps of the Nazi era. They came to Australia because of its tolerance and reputation of fairness, but in particular, their ability to practice whatever religion they chose without persecution.
The Jewish community in Australia is continually criticised for pressuring the media, politicians and others. We will not apologise for trying to protect the values that have made this country such a wonderful place to live. We understand that others may interpret such pressure as self-seeking, but it must be understood that what we are fighting for, is for all men and women to be treated equally, tolerantly, with compassion and fairness. Jews do not ask for favours for themselves, but rather for equality and freedom for all – they do not wish to be treated any differently. That Jews have been at the vanguard of social justice movements around the world for hundreds of years attests to this statement. And Jews understand intimately the ramifications of failing to maintain a tolerant society.
Let everyone who condones, perpetrates, or facilitates anti-Semitism, know that the Jewish people have for thousands of years, inexplicably been at the brunt of hatred and persecution against them. When a society condones anti-Semitism and the persecution of Jews, it is only a matter of time before other minorities suffer the same consequences. If this vile tripe comes to light abetted and unchallenged, then how long will it be before other minorities are similarly vilified – or worse.
Which minority do you belong, and where is it on the list of minorities to be targeted?
